Position Summary
Incumbent drives and influences strong preference and utilization of Batesville’s merchandising system by delivering programs, insights and support that increase profitability for Batesville and its customers. This position is responsible for leading the design, implementation and support of merchandising systems, programs, platforms and tools with targeted customers in collaboration and partnership with internal sales organization. Creates and refines processes and policies designed to maximize program performance. Develops mentors and manages consultative merchandising teams. Develops deep understanding of Batesville’s product strategy and of segmented customer groups and their retail environments for the purposes of delivering merchandising solutions that maximize business results. Recognizes customer unmet needs and monitors trends that indicate the need for new solutions and services. Directly supervises Merchandising Team members.  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • At program level, leads development and launch of new programs/systems based on company strategies and emerging needs within the funeral industry, maintaining Batesville's leadership position in funeral service innovation. (25%)
  • At the customer level, leads merchandising team effort that provides consultative leadership to sales reps and customers and implements, monitors and adjusts merchandising programs, platforms and tools that increase customer profitability. (25%)
  • Maintains standardized tracking, evaluation and feedback mechanism for key stakeholders and utilizes them to identify needs and gaps to make improvements to merchandising systems.  (25%)
  • Leads, mentors and develops Merchandising Team of high performing, consultative individuals who embrace collaborative process, hires associates, and conducts performance management and progressive discipline.  (25%)
  • Other duties may be assigned.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company policies, the Code of Ethical Business Conduct and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in marketing, communications, or business administration; and 7 or more years related marketing, project management, sales or account management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience
  • Expert at leading teams, developing talent, fostering great work environment
  • Strong experience developing concepts, managing projects and working with deadlines
  • Advanced level of familiarity with sales and merchandising concepts, tactics, and internet technology
  • Strong analytical acumen with the ability to translate data, to insights, to action
  • Strong presentation, oral and written communication, and self-organization skills
  • Solid command of basic Microsoft Office programs, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
 
Travel
Employee must be able to travel 25% of the time.
