Position Summary
The Engineer is responsible for implementing projects, aligned with our philosophy of Lean manufacturing. This position is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in process, materials, and equipment. This position is also responsible for the quality of products as they are passed on to the customer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Requires in-depth knowledge and experience
- Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
- Works independently; receives minimal guidance
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- Represents the level at which career may stabilize for many years or even until retirement
- Design, develop, and implement process improvements and to control usage and reduce scrap.
- Ensure product flow is optimized by reducing WIP and improving productivity.
- Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles throughout the organization using value stream mapping and other lean manufacturing tools such as 5s, kanban, and visual management.
- Support implementation of corrective actions to solve production/quality issues.
- Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods and quality design and control tools (PFMEA, Control Plan, DOE, etc.) for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
- Generates risk assessment, engineering requirements, cost estimates, schedules and works with manufacturing to implement new product/process development projects.
- Perform system reviews to ensure quality system policies, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and job instructions are being used and followed and assist in establishing or improving process flows for standard work.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities however may directly supervise project teams as required.
Travel
Employee must be able to travel <10 % of the time.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in engineering or related field; and five plus years related engineering experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in manufacturing environment.
Skills/Experience
Required/preferred skills:
- B.S. in Engineering preferred
- Experience in AutoCAD and Info View preferred.
- Direct experience in applicable industry is preferred.
Required/preferred experience:
- Experience with Statistical Software Packages preferred.
- Firm grasp of Lean/Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies preferred.
- Excellent communication and problem solving skills required.
- Concentration specific knowledge/experience as required for assigned area.
