Position Summary
Manages assigned commodities and works within the commodity team structure to resolve supplier issues and reduce total costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
- Develop, track, and execute sourcing strategies for assigned commodities; measured against key criteria (price, delivery, quality and responsiveness)
- Work closely with other departments to ensure cross-functional support on cost saving initiatives.
- Proactively monitor relevant markets
- Negotiate contract/supply agreements to secure the highest quality goods and value based on market shifts, supply chain movement, and various product offerings.
- Identify and drive cost savings initiatives
- Continually search out alternative sources and materials
- Manage Supplier relationships
- Support escalated supplier issues (material shortage) from procurement and work with suppliers for quick solutions
- Facilitate purchasing matters with other departments, locations and divisions, including senior management.
- Resolve supplier issues
- Work within the Commodity Team structure
- Other duties may be assigned.

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
Travel
Employee must be able to travel 35-50% of the time.
Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent from a college or university in business, operations management, or engineering.
Skills/Experience
Required/preferred skills:
- Ability to work independently and solve problems.
- Ability to work cohesively with all levels of internal and external customers with possessing listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.

- Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook are required.
Required/preferred experience:
- Knowledge of JD Edwards or PeopleSoft
- Solid comprehension of Finance & Business accounting.
- Familiar with manufacturing systems, material flow, and associated processes
- Understanding of lean principles and problem solving techniques Familiar with Six Sigma and/or principles in statistical control
- Metal Fabrication / Industry Knowledge
- Wood Processing / Fabrication / Industry Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of foreign and domestic markets for optimum pricing and terms.

Familiar with implementing low cost country sourcing

CPSM or APICS certification
